A Brief History of Martin Ryter

Martin Ryter is a multi talented artist/business man. Starting his lifelong career in 1964 with the acquisition of his first camera, on his 12th birthday. Living in a small town of 25,000 he quickly became a favorite choice for school portraits, weddings and he became a regular contributor to the local paper. After graduation from high school he interned for Dudas & Associates, a public relations group. There he learned the in's and outs of publicity photography and how visual images control the perception of the public. Additionally he completed photographic school under the direct supervision of iconic photographer Richard Avedon.

In 1972 he went to war torn Vietnam and his photography skills were used to journal the daily life of Vietnamese politicians, peasants, and the Americans remaining in Vietnam to clean up American interests. During his extended stay he learned to speak Vietnamese.

Back in the USA as a 22 year old, war experience had left him with zero desire to document the reality of human behavior. He followed his new interest in beauty photography and soon established himself as a viable player in the modeling industry. Early on he was hired by Gary Loftus of Englands top agency Models 1. His responsibility was to discover and develop new faces for the industry. This job put his photography skills to use and he found himself being mentored by Eileen Ford arguably the inventor of modeling as a profession. Mrs. Ford took him under her wing and taught him the finer points of model management. Hired away by Elite Model Management owner John Casablanca's. Martin took over as Vice President of elites new faces division It was the early 80s and Martin was directly involved in the successful careers of many super models including Christie Brinkley and Janice Dickinson.

Elite moved him to San Francisco to oversee the opening of the flagship John Casablanca's/elite school of modeling. Martin was tasked with the architectural design of the facility, creation of the curriculum and the staffing. His efforts spawned what is now a chain of 54 centers around the world.

Soon Martin ventured into his own agency and became a licensed agent in California. His discoveries were welcomed world wide and they enjoyed appearing in ad campaigns for clients including, Dolce Gabbana, Calvin Klein and numerous other firms. He introduced the worlds first male super model Brian Buzzini, and by doing so cleared the way for the success of muscular men in a fashion world populated by skinny frames.

Tired of his desk job life Martin moved to Los Angeles to capitalize on his photographic skills. There for 25 years and counting, his vision has touched the careers of hundreds of model, actors, singers, comedians, politicians and athletes . The list is long but includes,
